History
oo
The Jyoti Bal Vikas Sanstha (India) and Jyoti Children’s Development Foundation, Inc. (USA) jointly provides financial support and operates the Jyoti School for the hearing impaired. Positioned in the vicinities of Bithoor on the outskirts of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), India the school was set up in July 1990. Operating for the past 16 years the school offers free education to children from preschool to 5th grade and charges a nominal fee (waived off for low income groups) from students of 6th to 10th grades.
o
With two students to begin with in July 1990, the school has grown to over 150 students now with 35 residential students. Professionally trained and well qualified faculties, a proactive administrative body, a dynamic management staff and a group of eminent citizens of Kanpur volunteering as the local administrative body are the four stable pillars of the institute.
Mission
o
The Jyoti School for the Hearing Impaired is committed to provide quality education, training, and a variety of skill sets that would enable these special children to live with pride in the society at large. This noble mission is for the most part challenging in the impoverished state of UP, where education opportunities are inadequate for even non-handicapped children, particularly those from lower economic stratum of the society.
o
Jyoti School for the Hearing Impaired is accredited by the State Government. The Jyoti Bal Vikas Sanstha is a registered trust in India and donations to the Trust are exempted under section 80 G of the Income Tax Act.
